The residents of our Flagstaff, AZ apartments are busy people, and sometimes, the stresses of the day can flow over into nighttime. If this sounds familiar, we've got a few tips you can use to elicit more peaceful sleep during the overnight hours.
Put Yourself on a Schedule
Your body likes to work like clockwork, so it responds best when you go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Sure, you might have a night when you stay up a little later, or a morning when you simply can't get out of bed because it's Saturday, but generally speaking, it's best to stick to the same schedule every day.
Put Your Phone on Do-Not-Disturb Mode
You don't need to hear the constant pinging and dinging of your phone throughout the night. Even the smallest of sounds can disturb your sleep and cause you to lose out on your precious slumber.
Don't Look at Your Phone Two Hours Before Bed Time
That sounds hard, but it's doable once you get into a routine. The blue light that's emitted by cell phones, tablets, and computers can disrupt your internal clock. If you must be on your devices, make sure you switch to nighttime mode and turn down the brightness.
Exercise During the Day
People who exercise regularly tend to sleep better at night. Consider using your lunch hour to hit a group class, or wake up an hour early and head to the gym. When you get your blood flowing, you'll feel less sleepy during the day, and you'll have a more restful sleep when night falls.
Limit Caffeine and Alcohol
Both of these substances can interfere with your sleep cycle and cause you to be even more tired than you were before you imbibed.

You’ve probably heard people say that waking up earlier can improve your life. In fact, it’s better than that. There are virtually zero ways that waking up earlier will make your life any worse.
It’s only benefits. Let’s go through a few of them:
• Rushing will be a thing of the past.
• It’s quiet in the morning.
• You’ll be able to greet the day.
• You can leave your home in order.
• You’ll beat the rush.
• You can get started with that one thing you dream of doing (such as writing a novel).
OK, So How Do I Start Waking Up Early?
The best way to begin a new habit is to simply … start doing it.
This advice may seem anticlimactic, but let it be known that it’s the best suggestion out there for teaching yourself how to get up earlier.
Sure, you could try that method in which you slowly adjust your circadian rhythm over time, waking up five to 10 minutes earlier every day over a few weeks or months.
But if you really want the benefits of waking up earlier to start as soon as possible — why would you wait? When you have to catch an early flight or be somewhere at 6 a.m., you figure it out. You get up early because you have to. So do that now.
Tonight, go to sleep as early as you feel you can, and set your alarm for your desired time. When your alarm goes off in the morning, don’t think. Just get up. That day, you’ll probably be pretty tired, but that’s okay. You’ll go to bed earlier and do the same thing the next day. Your body will adjust.
Lastly, keep in mind that where you live will heavily impact how easy it is for you to start this new habit. Most of all, if you have roommates who wouldn’t appreciate you getting up and making coffee at 6 a.m., this could hinder your progress. It doesn’t mean you can’t do it, but it could be hard.
Or, you could consider moving into your own place—the best way to give yourself the space, time and resources for some much-needed self-improvement. Call our office today to see which Flagstaff apartments we currently have available!
