Woman and Dog SleepingThe residents of our Flagstaff, AZ apartments are busy people, and sometimes, the stresses of the day can flow over into nighttime. If this sounds familiar, we've got a few tips you can use to elicit more peaceful sleep during the overnight hours.

Put Yourself on a Schedule

Your body likes to work like clockwork, so it responds best when you go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. Sure, you might have a night when you stay up a little later, or a morning when you simply can't get out of bed because it's Saturday, but generally speaking, it's best to stick to the same schedule every day.

Put Your Phone on Do-Not-Disturb Mode

You don't need to hear the constant pinging and dinging of your phone throughout the night. Even the smallest of sounds can disturb your sleep and cause you to lose out on your precious slumber.

Don't Look at Your Phone Two Hours Before Bed Time

That sounds hard, but it's doable once you get into a routine. The blue light that's emitted by cell phones, tablets, and computers can disrupt your internal clock. If you must be on your devices, make sure you switch to nighttime mode and turn down the brightness.

Exercise During the Day

People who exercise regularly tend to sleep better at night. Consider using your lunch hour to hit a group class, or wake up an hour early and head to the gym. When you get your blood flowing, you'll feel less sleepy during the day, and you'll have a more restful sleep when night falls.

Limit Caffeine and Alcohol

Both of these substances can interfere with your sleep cycle and cause you to be even more tired than you were before you imbibed.

Wintertime goes hand in hand with flu season, but it doesn't mean you have to get sick. You can take steps to keep yourself healthy and help stop the spread of germs!

1. Wash your hands

Wash your hands more than normal in the winter, especially before cooking, after using the restroom, and after interacting with small children. Buy some small portable hand sanitizers to keep in a bag, and carry it with you.

It's especially important to have hand sanitizer on hand when going to a public event like a concert. Outdoor events often have portable toilets and poor sanitization, so put hand sanitizer on your checklist before heading out.

2. Get enough sleep

Most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep, but many do not get that much. Lack of sleep is associated with a weakened immune system, which isn't what you want during flu season.

If you don't get between seven and nine hours of sleep per night, try to rearrange your schedule. If scrolling or screen time keeps you awake, set limits for yourself to stop using technology late at night.

3. Try new stress relief techniques

Stress is also associated with a weakened immune system. There are many techniques to help you manage stress.

  • Meditate for 15 minutes per day.
  • Set aside time each day to engage in a hobby.
  • Spend time with friends.
  • Keep a diary.
  • Exercise.

If you feel anxiety regularly, you may be able to benefit from stress relief techniques. Talk to your doctor to find out which stress relief techniques will work for you. Your doctor can give you suggestions.

As the holidays draw friends and relatives near to us at Country Club Vista, our friendly Flagstaff apartment community, planning can get hectic. Sometimes, a little quiet time is essential. We're fortunate to have 3,000+ nearby acres of preserved open space to refresh us, courtesy of Flagstaff's Open Space Program.

And Country Club Vista has our own quiet, comfortable spaces to unwind and shake the stress off!

Four Soul-Refreshing Places

1. Have you ever listened to the songbirds at Picture Canyon Natural and Cultural Preserve in northeast Flagstaff? It's free. And it's open all year. Bring your walking boots, a camera, and a leave-no-trace spirit.

2. No cars or motor vehicles are permitted at the Observatory Mesa Natural Area, so it's a perfect meditation spot. It's always open to the public, and the sounds of nature and crisp autumn leaves will soothe your soul.

3. Escape the city hubbub for an extended walk along McMillan Mesa. Stroll along the east rim of the mesa going south to enjoy sweet views over East Flagstaff. You'll find park benches inviting you to sit down and take in the serenity of the mesa.

What a great spot for seeing animals in their native habitat! Watch for deer. Listen to the many birds.

4. Our own Clubhouse is a peaceful space to work, study, or meditate when a change of surroundings fits the bill, without leaving home.

And have you visited the Business Center lately? It's welcoming yet private.

Yet another very popular hangout option in our community is the private patio or balcony gracing each of our apartment homes, offering a little meditative haven just outside our doors.

Discover What Our Flagstaff Apartments Have to Offer

Our laid-back common areas and the open space around us defines Country Club Vista's quality of life. If you're looking for a gentle spot to call home, contact Country Club Vista at (844) 825-5017.
